Read this. Seriously. I want you to internalize this before you look at the list.
I told a class the other day that people are going to have three stages of reaction to this cast list. First, you will have your natural, gut-based emotional reaction. Allow yourself that. This is going to be awesome...or kinda cruddy. And that is an okay place to visit. Just don't move in. Second, you will look very much to any passerby like a confused puppy. There is no one who expected this to look like it does. Not even me. It's right...but it's going to be surprising. At first. Third...at some point in time...it will click. You will see what I saw. You will understand.
Actors - This was a great process for me. You challenged me to think really hard. What I want you to understand is that the hardest part of casting this show was that someone could be the second best option for one role and STILL not be right for any of the others. These characters are SO specific. They span two or more generations of age. They have to read as the right age and type when staged with everyone else. It is an ensemble...and everyone has to play a specific part.
Technicians - People ALL THE TIME say, "If I'm not cast, I'll just tech." No. No, you well may not. Again, I had almost as many tech apps as I had auditions. Luckily, we need a lot of technicians for fast scene changes on this show. Unfortunately, we still can't use everyone.
TO THOSE SELECTED - Congratulations! Seriously. Give yourself a moment to simply celebrate. You earned it. And then we get to work on Monday. I will see you at 3 in 2-12-A. Cast, you have to be there. Stage Manager, you, too. Crew, you are welcome, but do not have to start until later on. Be watching your email for further information. WOOT! This is going to be a fun ride!
TO THOSE NOT...THIS TIME - I'm sorry that this is going to be a bummer of a web page for now. I promise you two things. First, this is a decision based on your audition in that one moment in time, not a judgement on you as a person. Second, "Not this time" does not mean "Never." Thank you for your time. We'll see you in December for the next go.
All of that said...click here for the list!
